On Sunday 24 January 2010, young participants on our South Africa and Canada exchange program hosted a Sports Day at a Bulumko High School in F- Section where about 200 youth from across Khayelitsha actively participated.

Nomathamsanqa - A real Blessing to Volunteer Centre, Khayelitsha Office
Nomathamsanqa Brenda Skei has been volunteering at the Khayelitsha office for just more than a month. Nomathamsanqa means ‘Blessing’ and she certainly has been since starting her volunteering journey with us.

During the time that I volunteered at the satellite office it certainly helped me in developing myself because being at home and unemployed, can take it’s toll on you after a while. I have instead, gained skills and learned about the exciting world of NGO’s. I enjoyed volunteering for the Volunteer Centre.
Feeling valued, enabled me to discover my power
Four years ago, I was unemployed and at an all-time low. I was painfully shy, lacked confidence and felt worthless. I had to rely on my parents for financial assistance.
Intercultural Women Youth Exchange Program
The Volunteer Centre in partnership with Canada World Youth will send off South African and Kenyan youth to participate on an All Women Intercultural Youth Exchange program between Calgary, Canada and Khayelitsha, South Africa.

In 2006, the Volunteer Center recognized an increase in volunteer interests in the community of Khayelitsha. There was a growing interest of community members wanting to be volunteers. The Volunteer Center, then decided to enlarge it’s territory and establish a satellite office in Khayelitsha.
